Vanderfield has an exceptional opportunity available for an experienced and qualified John Deere Technician based in one of the largest and best Agriculture workshop in Australia. We are looking for an experienced John Deere Technician to assist with the training and mentoring on a day to day basis of up to 15 apprentices over a 40 - 45 hour week. You will be working with an experienced workforce who are passionate about their trade, the agriculture industry and dedicated to providing excellent customer service. 

Position Objective:

The successful applicant will be responsible for the effective repair of machinery and components at high levels of quality. Their work must be completed in a safe, professional and timely manner. Based upon their level of expertise, the Service Technician may work under direct supervision. This individual must be able to perform quality work as efficiently and profitably as possible, work overtime and weekends on occasion.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Your direct line of responsibility is to the Service Manager.

Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

  • Diagnose, inspect, recondition, repair, assemble, and service equipment and establish Ag Management Solutions (AMS) products;
  • General maintenance and repair of agricultural machinery and equipment;

  • Diagnosis and fault finding on agricultural machinery and equipment;

  • Document machine information and repairs completed on work order, including parts and fluids used;

  • Completes all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments;

  • Accounts for all time and for all material used in performing assigned duties;

  • Maintains condition of vehicles, inventory, tools and equipment;

  • Maintain a clean work area, as well as care for all shop tools, machines, and equipment;

  • Participates in Service EDUCATE Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge;

  • Maintain technical and product knowledge on all equipment sold within the dealerships area of responsibility.

  • Maintains current knowledge on competitive products;

  • Pre-delivery of new John Deere and other products;

  • Maintaining company vehicle in a clean and tidy condition and ensuring servicing of those vehicles is performed in accordance with the manufactures service schedule;

  • Identify and communicate solutions for customer service opportunities in the dealership’s area of responsibility;

  • Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to all policies and procedures as specified in company manuals and as directed in the employee handbook.

  • Conduct self in the presence of customers and community so as to present a professional image of Vanderfield;

  • Proactively seek and participate in available company-sponsored training, in an effort to develop and advance knowledge base and skill set;

  • Participate in all company/location driven communication efforts, including branch meetings and department meetings and other related efforts;

  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or management in a professional and efficient manner.

Essential Skills/Qualifications

  • Trade qualification certificate;

  • 5 - 7 years of experience performing repairs;

  • Ability to perform repairs and required maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures;

  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems used in the repair of agricultural and turf equipment;

  • Ability to use John Deere diagnostic equipment and basic computer functions;

  • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes;

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills;

  • Ability to carry out manual labour including repetitive lifting;

  • Valid driver’s license is required;

  • Fork lift license preferred.


  • Employees are required to supply and maintain a tool kit sufficient to carry out their job in a professional and tradesman like manner.

You will be supplied with specialized tools as needed to carry out specific duties.
